Microcool Black SouthSink |
Product Description & Info When Sidewinder Computers introduced the Northpole from Microcool to the North American market in mid 2003, it started a revolution in more advanced chipset cooling. The Northpole along with its included ChipSink kit allowed many users to push their
front side bus even further after installation. Microcool continues to refine its ChipSink product line with the SouthSink, shown here.
The SouthSink is designed specifically for the Southbridge chip. A Southbridge chip typically handles the I/O functions of the chipset. Generally it does not get super-hot like an overclocked
Northbridge, which is why most motherboards leave this chip bare. Our own Fluke 65 Infrared Thermometer recorded Southbridge temperatures around 100 degrees
Fahrenheit on mildly
overclocked systems.
Due to the placement of the Southbridge (beneath PCI slot 1/2), users should inspect his or her board layout prior to installation, and be sure to install a half-length card into any offensive PCI card slots. Installation is identical to the ChipSinks, just peel off the adhesive to expose the Chomerics thermal interface material, and stick it onto
the Southbridge.
